Program overview
The Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) at the McEwen School of Architecture—Canada’s 12th officially accredited architecture school—is a 2-year professional degree focusing on northern community needs, climate-resilient building design, and sustainable technologies. Key areas of advanced research and design thesis work include wood construction, design for climate change, and digital fabrication.
The curriculum emphasizes experiential learning through hands-on design-build projects and community-engaged studios (such as Architecture and Craft, Indigenous Design, or Community Building). Indigenous worldviews and knowledge are deeply integrated throughout the coursework. Additionally, two terms are dedicated to co-operative education placements in design firms locally, nationally, or internationally, preparing graduates for professional licensure and careers in urban design, community planning, or sustainable architectural practice.
