Program overview
The Mechanical Engineering Technology (Manufacturing) Co-op program provides specialized technical education and hands-on training focused on the design, operation, automation, and supervision of advanced manufacturing systems:
-
Common Engineering First Year: Starts with a common initial engineering technology year where students complete their first two semesters before transferring (from Gander campus to Ridge Road campus) for upper-year coursework and intersession training.
-
CAD/CAM & Engineering Design: Utilizes industry-standard 2D/3D CAD and Modeling software alongside Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) tools to design mechanical components, assemblies, and detailed technical specifications.
-
Automation, Robotics & CNC: Develops electro-pneumatic and automation systems through direct practical experience programming and operating Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and industrial robotics.
-
Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM): Applies core engineering concepts—including materials science, strength of materials, and machine design—to operate integrated manufacturing systems.
-
Quality Assurance & Leadership: Trains students in precision measurement quality control techniques and equips them with resource management and problem-solving skills to assume supervisory and technical decision-making roles early in their careers.
