Program overview
The Petroleum Engineering Technology program provides specialized technical training in fossil energy exploration, reservoir evaluation, well operations, and sustainable oil and gas development:
-
Common Engineering First Year: Starts with a common initial engineering technology year where students complete their first two semesters before transferring (from Gander campus to Ridge Road campus) for upper-year coursework and intersession training.
-
Geological & Geophysical Analysis: Trains students to construct and interpret surface and subsurface (drill hole) geological maps, structural sections, topographic profiles, and seismic data for land-based and offshore resource exploration.
-
Reservoir Evaluation: Covers analyzing drill core, drill cuttings, open-hole logging data, and cased-hole wireline logs to evaluate formation porosity, fluid saturation, permeability, and net pay.
-
Well Construction & Production Optimization: Teaches principles to assist in planning, designing, inspecting, supervising, constructing oil/gas wells, estimating petroleum reserves, and optimizing production.
-
Fluid Separation Systems: Focuses on selecting, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining processing equipment associated with the surface separation of produced oil, gas, and water fluids.
