Program overview
The Instrumentation and Controls Engineering Technology program provides technical training in industrial automation, process control systems, and precision measurement:
-
Common Engineering First Year: Features a common initial year where students complete their first two semesters before transferring (from Gander campus to Ridge Road campus) for upper-year coursework and intersession training.
-
Process Measurement & Sensor Calibration: Teaches students to specify, install, configure, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain industrial instruments measuring key process variables such as pressure, temperature, flow, and level.
-
Automation & Control Systems: Focuses on designing, programming, and maintaining control devices, Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and Emergency Shutdown Systems.
-
Analytical Instrumentation: Covers the maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of analytical instruments and sampling systems used across complex process industries.
-
Safety & Workplace Standards: Emphasizes industrial process safety, hazard analysis, regulatory standards, workplace procedures, and professional technical report preparation.
