Program overview
The Electronics Engineering Technology – Biomedical program combines a strong foundation in electronics with specialized technical training to manage, maintain, and optimize medical instrumentation in clinical and healthcare settings:
-
Common Engineering First Year: Starts with a common initial engineering technology year where students complete their first two semesters before transferring (from Gander campus to Ridge Road campus) for upper-year coursework and intersession training.
-
Specialized Biomedical Scope: Integrates electronics fundamentals with anatomy, physiology, chemistry, biochemistry, healthcare safety protocols, and microprocessor applications in medical settings.
-
Instrumentation Maintenance & Calibration: Teaches troubleshooting, calibration, design modification, and operation of electro-medical devices—including monitoring systems, defibrillators, electrosurgery units, imaging devices, clinical lab instruments, and dialysis delivery systems.
-
Diagnostic & Safety Analyzers: Employs specialized biomedical test equipment such as patient parameter simulators, pressure/flow measurement tools, electrosurgical analyzers, and electrical safety analyzers.
-
IT & Networked Systems: Trains technicians to operate and maintain Linux-based medical instrumentation within secure wireless hospital network environments.
-
Special Consideration: May not be suitable for applicants who do not have normal color perception due to color-coded wiring, schematics, and diagnostic components.
