Program overview
The Civil Engineering Technology (Co-op) program provides technical training in civil design, structural analysis, construction management, and municipal infrastructure development:
-
Common Engineering First Year: Features a common initial year where students complete their first two semesters before transferring (from Gander campus to Ridge Road campus) for upper-year coursework and intersession training.
-
Structural & Infrastructure Design: Trains students to analyze structural reactions, plan municipal infrastructure projects, and assist with designing, inspecting, and troubleshooting transportation facilities.
-
Project Supervision & Layout: Teaches scheduling, site monitoring, and construction supervision, alongside engineering surveys and construction layouts using GIS, GPS, and conventional survey instruments.
-
Materials Testing: Covers designing, calculating, and testing asphalt and concrete mixes to meet industry specifications and quality standards.
-
Co-op Work Terms: Integrates real-world field experience through cooperative work placements, enhancing practical skill application and career readiness.
-
Broad Sector Impact: Prepares graduates for roles spanning residential, commercial, industrial, harbour, airport, and transportation infrastructure projects.
