Program overview
The Medical Laboratory Assistant program prepares students to carry out vital pre-analytical components of medical laboratory work under the direct supervision of Medical Laboratory Technologists. The practical curriculum focuses on blood sample collection (phlebotomy), performing electrocardiograms (ECGs), managing lab equipment, and applying accurate medical terminology.
Graduates are eligible to write certification exams offered by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and the Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Association of Ontario (MLPAO) to practice across hospitals, diagnostic clinics, private laboratories, and physicians’ offices.
