Program overview
The McEwen School of Architecture offers a unique curriculum rooted in “pride of place,” embracing the northern Ontario landscape, climate, and community resiliency. As the first new architectural program in Canada in over 45 years, it emphasizes design for northern environments, sustainable timber construction, and community-based design.
Reflecting Laurentian’s tri-cultural mandate, design studios are conducted in both English and French, incorporating First Nations, Métis, and Anishinabek perspectives alongside guidance from local Elders. While general electives are taken at Laurentian’s main campus, core Design Studio courses are held at the dedicated McEwen campus in downtown Greater Sudbury.
